IMSI (Intracytoplasmic Morphologically Selected Sperm Injection) is used to select sperm before fertilizing eggs.
Embryologist will use microscopes with a high magnification of more than 6000x that can see the detail of the sperm shape and the organelles inside the sperm to select the appropriate sperm, avoid selecting sperm with vacuole, which highly likely to carry DNA fragmentation and may cause fertilization failure and failed implantation.
Process
Before starting fertility in men, semen analysis and sperm DNA fragmentation need to be performed to assess the quality of the sperm.
Recommended for
1.Men with abnormal semen analysis with high sperm DNA fragmentation
2.Failed fertilization or poor fertilization in previous IVF/ICSI treatment cycle
3.Low blastocyst rate in previous IVF/ICSI treatment cycle
4.Failed implantation more than 2 cycles.
Advantages
IMSI may increase the chances of pregnancy compared with ICSI in patients with low quality sperm.
