Team Composition: 

• Anesthesiologist: A physician specifically trained in anesthesia and perioperative medicine. 

• Nurse Anesthetist: Nurses trained in the delivery of anesthesia. 

• Recovery Room Nurse: Specialized nurses who look after patients recovering from anesthesia post-surgery. 

• Assistant Staff: Support the anesthesia team in ensuring the well-being of the patient during procedures.

Roles & Responsibilities: 

• System Monitoring: They oversee vital body systems during surgery, including the respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, renal-urinary, and other essential functions. 

• Drug Administration: Administer pain medication and muscle relaxants to ensure pain-free surgery and patient comfort. 

• Crisis Management: Trained to respond swiftly to any emergencies or unexpected complications during surgery.  

Continuous education and training are paramount in anesthesiology to ensure patients' safety and well-being. The anesthesiology team is always on its toes, ready to tackle any changes or malfunctions that might occur during a procedure.

Anesthesiologist: 

• Education: Requires a specific medical degree in anesthesiology. 

• Role Overview: They collaborate closely with surgeons to manage a patient's pain and consciousness level during surgery.

Three Phases of Care:

Preoperative Period: 

Assessment of patient's health history, medication, and other pertinent health information. 

Collaborate with the patient and medical teams to determine the anesthesia method. 

Coordinate laboratory investigations and consultations with other specialties as needed. 

Educate patients about the risks and prepare them for surgery and anesthesia.

During Surgery: 

Monitor the patient's vital signs, organ functions, and ensure appropriate anesthesia depth. 

Oversee the use of contrast agents if required, ensuring safe and effective imaging during the procedure.   

Post-Operative Period: 

Transition patients to the recovery room and manage any complications. 

Address post-surgical pain and provide necessary interventions.
