Candidate Criteria

Suitable for

• Desire to reduce reliance on glasses/contacts due to lifestyle or occupational needs
• ≥ 18 years old with stable refraction ≥ 1 year
• Informed and realistic expectations

General exclusions/precautions

• Conditions contraindicated for LASIK (e.g., glaucoma, certain retinal diseases, SLE) — surgeon’s clearance required
• Pregnancy (hormonal changes can alter refraction)
• Age 40+: After correction to plano, reading glasses may still be needed

Preparing for the Pre-Surgical Eye Evaluation

1. Stop contact lenses — soft ≥ 3 days, rigid ≥ 7 days
2. Allows corneal shape to normalize for accurate measurements (wear spectacles meanwhile).
3. Bring a companion — pupil dilation causes blur/light sensitivity; do not drive afterward
4. Bring sunglasses if possible

Pre-Op Preparation (Procedure Day)

• No contact lenses (soft ≥ 3 days; rigid ≥ 7 days)
• No makeup around eyes; no sprays/perfumes (laser environment)
• Front-button shirt, shower and shampoo beforehand
• Arrange escort for the trip home
• On the day: Topical anesthetic + antiseptic drops; eye shield placed after surgery (pin-holes allow limited vision). Same-day discharge; next-day visit for shield removal and flap/wound check.

Aftercare

First Night (common)

• Tearing, nasal congestion, peri-ocular itch — do not remove the shield; dab around it gently
• Foreign-body sensation/burning; occasional eye pain
• Rest well; avoid prolonged TV/reading; take prescribed hypnotic if needed

Next Day (after shield removal)

• Redness/subconjunctival hemorrhage → typically resolves in 7–14 days
• Photophobia/stinging early on → wear sunglasses
• Fluctuating vision (clear/hazy days; “foggy” reading) for ~1–4 weeks varies by patient
• You may use your eyes; take regular breaks by gazing far for 5–10 minutes
