Singapore to Trial AI System for Faster Heart Disease Diagnosis
Singapore — The National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) is set to pilot the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in three public hospitals, aiming to significantly reduce the time required to analyze heart scan images and enable faster diagnosis of coronary artery disease.

On Tuesday (May 20), Lohendran Baskaran, Senior Consultant at the center, said the AI-powered system can interpret heart scans and assess coronary artery disease risk in under 10 minutes—a substantial improvement compared to the current 2–4 hours typically needed by radiologists and cardiologists.
Baskaran stated that the Singapore AI-powered coronary lesion analysis system, which operates under supervision, achieves an accuracy rate of between 85% and 99%. A one-year trial, set to begin in the third quarter of this year (July–September), will evaluate how effectively the system performs in real-world clinical settings.
Local media reports indicate that coronary artery disease is the leading cause of cardiovascular-related deaths in Singapore. In 2023, a total of 8,311 people died from cardiovascular diseases, accounting for nearly 30% of all deaths that year.
