On Monday (August 26), Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Indonesia's Minister of Health, revealed that the country has reported a total of 88 cases of Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) since the first case was detected in August 2022.

The report indicates that in 2024 alone, 14 new Mpox cases have been detected.

Sadikin stated that Indonesia has managed to control the outbreak despite the increasing prevalence of the Clade IIB subvariant of the virus. All cases have been successfully treated, and the mortality rate remains low.

Jakarta has reported the highest number of Mpox cases, with a total of 59, followed by West Java with 13, Banten with 9, East Java and Yogyakarta with 3 each, and Riau with 1 case.

The Indonesian government has prepared 4,450 doses of the Mpox vaccine for 2,225 people, with each person receiving two doses to further control the spread. In 2023, 495 people have already been vaccinated.
